There is a famous quote by Jim Rohn that says “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” There is a very deep meaning behind this quote which is worth a moment of pause and reflection.
Who do you spend the most of your time with? Do these people motivate you, inspire you and elevate you to step up the game and reach your goals? Are these the people that you want to be like one day? Or are they naysayers bring your energy down and demotivate you?
We don’t have control over anyone except ourselves. So I am not going to ask you to change these people, coach them or try to inspire them. They are here for a reason and we can’t judge or change anyone’s journey. Who you do have full control over however, is yourself, and it’s totally up to you to surround yourself with people who inspire you.
Your network includes your family, friends, colleagues, mentors, coaches, community members and many others. Surround yourself with people who you want to spend your time with. I understand that some of our family members bring our energy down and demotivate us, not because they don’t love us, but because they want to protect us. You can’t stop interacting with them but be mindful of the conversations you have with them. You don’t have to share your goals and dreams with everyone, instead, you could just have common conversations that you both enjoy talking about.
You don’t have to get into arguments with anyone. Choose your conversations wisely and never get disappointed by negativity that is around you. I want you to take positive actions and create your own network and circle of trust.
This is a very easy process and you can find inspirational people everywhere! If you haven’t found them, then you may be going to the wrong places. Attend networking events, motivational events and business workshops to create your own tribe of like-minded people. I promise you that there are many people in this world who share the same values and passions as you. Your only job is to Find them and Stay in touch with them.
Create your own mastermind and support group. There is a saying that if you are the smartest person in the room, then you are in the wrong room! Look for people who’s skills compliment your own and who you can learn from. There is no point in surrounding ourselves with people that keep us in our comfort zone, we won’t grow in that environment.
I want you to make a list of people that you spend the most of your time with and write down how they inspire you or bring you down. Add at least one inspirational person that you want to have in your network and choose the conversations that you want to have with those who are not motivating you.
Be a part of various networks for each aspect of your life, from family, business, financials, investment, fun and more. If you are not happy with your network, the good news is that you have a choice to change it! I would love to know who in your network inspires you the most.
